Learning Development

The VDFP Learning Development Division manages the creation, modernization, and delivery of fire service training in the Commonwealth. Relying on Virginia’s fire service subject matter experts, the team creates standards that support learning outcomes.  

In addition to managing learning development initiatives, the division oversees critical learning technologies such as Cornerstone On Demand, the agency’s Learning Management System.

Our range of training programs includes internationally accredited courses ranging from basic firefighting techniques, advanced rescue operations, to specialized skills development.

On Demand Learning

Offering a wide variety of education that can be delivered in-person, virtually, or through self-paced online courses.  

Fire Service training courses are reviewed based on their classification (attendance or accredited). Learning development groups use Fire Service subject matter experts (SME) from across the Commonwealth to review or create training through the curriculum development process.
