At the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP), we are committed to supporting our communities through a variety of grants designed to enhance fire and emergency services across the Commonwealth. 

Summary of Available Grants

Aid to Localities (ATL)

Ensures that local fire departments receive the financial support they need to maintain and improve their operational capabilities.

This grant helps fund essential equipment,
training and other critical resources.

Conference and Education

Supports attendance and participation in key conferences and educational programs. This funding ensures that our personnel stay informed about the latest advancements and best practices in fire and emergency services.

Fire Incident Reporting

Funding to support hardware, software and internet setup costs that enable fire incident reporting for the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS). 

Additional projects that improve reporting capabilities may also be considered individually.

Live Fire Training Structure

Dedicated to constructing and maintaining facilities where firefighters can train under realistic conditions. This grant provides funding for live fire training structures, ensuring our personnel are well-prepared for real-world emergencies

Mini-Grant

Offers financial assistance for smaller-scale projects and equipment purchases. This grant is designed to address specific needs that may not be covered by larger funding programs, providing flexibility and support for diverse requirements.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Helps fire departments strengthen their operational readiness by easing the financial burden of acquiring essential gear.

Regional Fire Services Training Facilities

Focuses on the development and enhancement of training facilities across the Commonwealth. This funding ensures that our firefighter and EMS personnel have access to state-of-the-art training environments.

Virginia Dry Hydrant

Aims to improve water accessibility for fire suppression in rural and underserved areas.

This funding supports the installation and ongoing maintenance of dry hydrants, significantly enhancing the firefighting capabilities of local departments.
