Virginia Dry Hydrant Grant

The Virginia Dry Fire Hydrant Grant program funds the installation and repair of dry hydrants to support firefighting operations in the commonwealth.

Jointly managed by the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF), it provides 100% funding for new installations and repairs.

  • Knowing the available water sources like streams, ponds, and cisterns is beneficial only if the water is easily accessible. Soft or obstructed ground or distant locations can hinder fire department operations.
  • Installing dry hydrants in nearby water supplies eliminates the inefficiency of long-distance water shuttles, allowing fire departments to maintain a consistent water supply from accessible roadway locations.
  • Fire departments can request support by securing approval from local landowners and submitting a funding request to the DOF.
